Very interesting interview with Jim Gray on channel9

What I found interesting is the configuration of terraserver is now commodity servers and not clusters on a SAN.

Ok so terraserver is not an OLTP system but still makes you think, the whitepapers he mentions can be found at

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/About.aspx?n=AboutPapers

The specific paper on the brick configuration is http://research.microsoft.com/research/pubs/view.aspx?type=Technical%20Report&id=812 makes very interesting reading. Lots of time has gone into this.

The SQL team have come up with an amended sp_MSdbuseraccess that only runs in the databases a use has access to, so for hosting services and other situations where many databases exist but a user only has access to a few this will increase their performance in EM

So you can't wait until Yukon and your developers want profiler access but you don't want to give them sysadmin access. The options available are detailed in the following post,

Not sure if this will still apply to Feb CTP but for December at least running profiler on a windows 2003 server machine may hang. This is due to digitally signed apps.
