2013 Goals and such

Going to make this simple and straight forward this year - Here are my 2013 goals (in addition to another bunch I have specifically for work)

SQL Conferences & Training Events

  • SQLCruise (Miami) - Jan 2013 - I'll be on the cruise ship and doing a 2-Hour Deeeeeep Dive on Memory, Want to learn more then visit www.sqlcruise.com
  • SQL Rally's - Hoping they are happening again and would love to be part of that event again
  • SQLPASS (Charlotte) - No more needs to be said about the 'Main event' of all the SQL Conferences
  • SQLBits XI - Will be there, hoping to present once again @ this awesome event & be a volunteer of course
  • Attend | Present @ 6+ SQL Saturdays (3+ non UK)
  • 6+ Virtual events {match my 2012 tally}
  • Deliver a 1-2 Full-Day training course


  • SQL London PASS Chapter - to help organize 10-12 events in London, with my co-leader Dave Ballantyne
  • SQLRelay 2013 - this is going to be excellent events, help on organizing these along with other UG leaders
  • SQLSanta II - Hopefully repeat the event we hosted in Dec 2012 once again in Dec 2013


Pass 6+ exams in 2013, including a non SQL Server one - perhaps one will be an Oracle exam

  • Exam 88 971: SQL Server 2008 Microsoft Certified Master: Lab Exam - looking to pass this on my 2nd attempt
  • Read 6+ SQL Technical Books
  • Pass the MCM SQL Server 2008 in 1st half 2013
  • Perhaps an Oracle or VMWare Exam

Work on compiling my "MCM Study Notes" (OneNote) for MCM Certification" and keep it going throughout the year (min 10 new pages per month added)



  • Work on a SQL Server book or chapters in 2013
  • Write and have plublished 3+ Articles on a major SQL Server site
  • Technical reviewer role – Would like to do a technical reviewer of a book


  • Further the LinkedIn online resources, mine and the UK SQL Server FAQ group
  • Forum Activity (Regular activity) with a target 100+ questions answered
  • Twitter - Regular activity on various SQL Tags build following (target 2000 followers)
  • Blogs (min 25 technical in the year) + add a few non-technical as well
